By cultivating and producing human resources with an inclusive mindset and realizing diverse and continuous accessibility, we will contribute to building a sustainable society in which everyone can play an active role with a sense of fulfillment and happiness.Leading universities nationwide in supporting students with disabilities and nurturing accessibility leadersHU’s basic philosophy is to guarantee all students the same high-quality education and ensure fairness in evaluations. In 1997, we established a university-wide organization to ensure that reasonable adjustments, consideration, and support are made or given for academic accessibility. In particular, HU has been highly praised for its comprehensive support for students with disabilities, including assistance with entrance exams and taking classes, and has been ranked first in the nation for seven consecutive years since 2018 in the Asahi Shimbun Publications University Rankings. An Accessibility Leader (AL) is a person who understands individual and social diversity and can promote accessibility and explore possibilities in various contexts. Since 2006, HU has been implementing an AL qualification program, ahead of other universities in the country, so as to develop human resources. In 2009, the “Accessibility Leader Promotion Consortium” (with its secretariat at HU) was established under industry-academia-government collaboration, and the program was expanded to include 27 universities, two companies and two government agencies nationwide. We strive to provide an environment where all students can learn independently and flexibly and to nurture talent needed by society.Promoting the active participation of female researchers: Toward the active development of the next generation of human resourcesHU has promoted the active participation of female researchers, including being selected for a total of seven subsidy projects implemented by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to support the research activities of female researchers and to realize a diverse research environment. Through these efforts to nurture female researchers who are willing to take on cutting-edge research topics, the proportion of female researchers has increased to 19.5% (as of May 1st, 2024).In 2023, we also began a new joint research project with Shimane University called “Comfortable and Rewarding Research Environment for Female Researchers in STEM at Regional Universities.”In order to increase the number of female science and engineering students who aspire to become researchers, we are taking steps such as providing fellowships to support their advancement to doctoral programs. Starting with the AY2026 entrance examination, held in AY2025, a total of 37 female quotas will be established in the School of Science, the School of Engineering, and the School of Informatics and Data Science.No. 1 in the nation 318 leaders for Level 1, 404 leaders for Level 2
