The purpose of this demonstration testing is to verify and identify issues that need to be addressed in order to implement autonomous driving and vehicle platooning technologies in society.Based on the results of this demonstration testing, we aim for Mobility Oriented Development (MOD) that utilizes a mobility system that integrates various means of transportation.Social and Industry-Academia Collaboration Promoting industry-academia-government collaboration to create innovative global businessesHU has established the Headquarters for Open Innovation in order to create innovative global businesses and revitalize the Japanese and regional economies by acquiring and promoting large-scale collaborative research projects that are deeply connected to corporate business strategies. The Headquarters for Open Innovation consists of the Department of Academia-Government-Industry Collaboration, the Department of Intellectual Property, and the Department of Community Cooperation, where supporting personnel such as Coordinators for Industry-Academia Collaboration, Creative Managers, and Intellectual Property Managers are working together to provide robust support for industry-academia-government collaboration efforts. As the leading regional innovation hub in western Japan, we will develop the organization and mechanisms to continuously commercialize the fruits of HU’s world-class education and research standards and contribute to the creation of new industries originating in the local area.Toward safe, environmentally friendly, equitable and seamless mobilityHU’s proposal, “Development of a new mobility-oriented city with an agglomeration of places for social exchange,” has been selected as a theme for the third phase titled “Development of Smart Mobility Platform” of the Cross-ministerial Strategic Innovation Promotion Program (SIP) implemented by the Cabinet Office. In order to overcome common issues faced by regional areas, such as a declining birthrate and aging population, population outflow, labor shortages, and unstable demand for transportation, we are using as a model city the university town of Higashihiroshima, a city with a concentration of intelligence to create an ideal state of urban spaces and mobility services. With Professor FUJIWARA Akimasa (The IDEC Institute/Graduate School of Advanced Science and Engineering/Graduate School of Innovation and Practice for Smart Society) as the head of research and development, the theme will be worked on in collaboration with private companies and research institutes to “develop a new mobility-oriented city with an agglomeration of places for social exchange.”Toward becoming Japan’s leading industry-academia-government co-creation hubHiroshima University Digital Monozukuri (Manufacturing) Education and Research CenterEstablished in February 2019, the Center utilizes the Cabinet Office’s “Subsidy for Regional University / Regional Industry Creation” and “Regional Revitalization Promotion Subsidy” and is part of the “Hiroshima Monozukuri Digital Innovation Project” by Hiroshima Prefecture. The Center is a ground for academia-industry collaboration, conducting research and development activities aimed at social implementation and development of advanced industrial human resources. In AY2023, the Center was also selected for the newly established “Development Category” of the “Subsidy for Regional University / Regional Industry Creation” program. In response to this, we will apply the results of the research projects we have been working on since our establishment, which are “Material Model-based Research,” “Data-Driven Smart System,” and “Smart Inspection and Monitoring,” to work on two research projects, “Smart Battery System Development” and “Smart Air-Conditioning System Development,” which will contribute to electrification, an important aspect in the future of the automobile industry.4565891.0311.989Working together with the local community to solve local issues
