Hiroshima University will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2024, including the 75 years from the founding of its predecessor, Hakushima School, in 1874 to the opening of Hiroshima University in 1949. Hiroshima University was founded as a symbol of recovery and revitalization after the devastation of the atomic bomb. Under its Guiding Principles, which prioritize “The Pursuit of Peace,” HU has developed hand in hand with the local community as one of Japan’s leading comprehensive research universities.
