In particular, the Genome Editing Research Center, one of the Centers of Excellence, was developed into the Hiroshima University Genome Editing Innovation Center in AY2018. The Center is creating genome editing technology to solve social issues on a local to global scale, making Hiroshima University a source of solutions for problems for humanity. Additionally, the Center is also promoting co-creation with society, for example by establishing university-based venture companies. The internationalization of HU has been significantly promoted through diversifying our faculty and staff, improving the language skills of our students, increasing the number of students sent abroad, and promoting two-way exchanges of researchers and students with the world’s top universities. Throughout a decade of thorough internationalization efforts, HU has produced many international students and Japanese students who have gained overseas experience and is improving its recognition as a global university. Through the internationalization of HU, we are contributing to enhancing the international competitiveness of Japan’s higher education, establishing an environment for cultivating talented individuals, and promoting the internationalization of the country as a whole. The project provides priority support to universities that are working to thoroughly internationalize their universities, such as by implementing new initiatives to realize and accelerate exchanges and collaborations with world-class universities, making systemic improvements such as reforming their personnel and academic affairs systems, and strengthening systems to develop students’ global capabilities.Through internationalization and university reform based on strengthening both educational and research capabilities, we aim to transform HU into one of the world’s top 100 comprehensive research universities that continuously produces global talent and creates knowledge.● Ensuring international relevance (increasing international students, improving the language skills of Japanese students, and sending students abroad)● Promoting collaboration with overseas universities, etc.Taking advantage of the strengths of our research capabilities, particularly in the interdisciplinary fields of semiconductor/meta matter and regenerative medicine/cell medicine/drug discovery, as well as the environment and resources of the Hiroshima and Setouchi regions, we will converge knowledge from around the world through co-creation with local governments and industry. Based on this, we will build and develop an internationally oriented regional revitalization model that will lead the way in solving domestic and international issues from both global and local perspectives, including further enhancing academic excellence, creating innovation that leads to solving global issues and social change, improving the productivity of local industries, and creating new industries. To dramatically improve the research capabilities of regional core universities and universities with strengths in specific research fields, the project supports the creation of an environment in which universities can accelerate and step up the international expansion of their research activities and social implementation, based on the premise of building a management strategy centered on their strengths and distinctive research capabilities.Based on HU’s outstanding research capabilities, we will create the “Hiroshima Research & Innovation Valley (Hi-RIV),” an ecosystem for interdisciplinary fusion which serves as the hub for a virtuous cycle of people, knowledge, and resources so as to promote the circulation of international intellect and clustering of industries.● Based on visualization using synchrotron radiation, promoting strategies to improve research capabilities, focusing on the interdisciplinary research fields of semiconductor/meta matter and regenerative medicine/cell medicine/drug discovery.● Creating innovation that leads to solving global issues and social change, improving productivity in local industries, creating jobs, etc.ItemInitial valueSubsidy total: 2.3 billion yenAY2021resultsStrengthening educational and research capabilitiesTotal project cost: 800 million yenInitial value(AY2013)ItemAY2023resultsItemMajor achievements/main results and goalsSubsidy amount awarded: 5.5 billion yenInitial planned value (AY2023)Target value (AY2028)SAChallenges in Value Creation: Progress Report on the In
